April 24th, 2011 Easter Sunday
It has been raining for what seems like 40 days and 40 nights! The water is rising in the nearby Blizzard Pond Drainage Way (Man made Creek.) I leave at 2:00 pm to attend an Easter function but Doug remains behind at the campground because it is raining buckets and buckets per hour. When I return at 5:00 pm we are already in trouble. The water has already begun to rise over the outer road on the South side of the park. We immediately realize that we are going to have to at least get campers moved to the North side of the park as soon as possible. Because it is the Easter holiday, many of our resident campers have gone home and are not in the park. I begin trying to make contact with people to get them to return. We have a visitors who have arrived early for the quilt show that we have to move as well. Everyone, family and friends, begin to pitch in, helping each other get to the other side of the park, while some moved their campers to higher ground at other locations in Paducah. We worked late in to the night getting everyone to higher ground but the rain continued all night, coming even harder than before. Doug stayed because his fear was that we would have to evacuate everyone quickly.
April 25th, 2011 Monday
Our biggest fears came true as at 6:00 am, Monday morning we began to evacuate every camper from Victory RV Park. Again, everyone, family, and friends pitched in to get all campers to higher ground. Some of our residents had to come from as far as Atlanta GA, Arkansas, and Missouri to get their campers. We had to relocate several quilters. Thank you to the other campgrounds in Paducah for finding places for those quilters who had made reservations with us. We did manage to get everyone out safely, thanks to all who helped. We are truly grateful to everyone who helped us in our time of need.

Tonight, instead of watching the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Cars race around the high banks of the Paducah International Raceway, I sit in my house wondering how high the flood waters have gotten in the campground and in my office. The National Guard have the roads blocked so that folks cannot get into the flooded areas, which is a good thing, but we have not seen the extent of the damage for about one week. I am worried that we will have to start all over rebuilding the campground. I have never been through a flood like this one and hope to never go through it again. I feel bad for all the people whose houses are flooded all over Western KY, Southern IL, and other areas. This has certainly been a crazy year for weather. A wise old man who lived for 90 years once told me, "You cannot change the weather, so why complain about it!" He was right. So we must go on and make the most of each day. God bless all the people who have been affected by the recent weather; floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes. I pray for their health and safety. I also pray for weather that will help us in the clean up efforts. "God bless all those who are assisting others in every way possible, by opening their hearts and doing your will. Amen."

Yesterday, the racecars had practice our neighboring Paducah International Raceway www.paducahracing.com. The sounds of the roaring engines lets me know that racing season is finally here. (PIR schedule) Thank goodness after a long cold winter. If you like racecars on a great dirt track, come stay with us and we will shuttle to the front gate of the track. Also, the quilters have been calliing and making reservations for the upcoming AQS Quilt Show in Paducah. (AQS Quilt Show) We look forward to seeing these visitors again. I also got news recently that the Heartland Worship Faithriders will be hosting a "Rally at the Rivers" bike rally on June 25-27th. Contact Julie Griffith at 534-1400 ext. 207 if interested. We'll soon be doimg some more upgrades to the campground. We are adding our playground, dog run, and additional spaces. Enjoy the approaching spring weather. The fish are biting at Victory RV Park. Come on out and see us at Victory RV Park and Campground on Shemwell Lane in Paducah, KY.

We have had several new visitors to Victory RV Park during the month of August. Be sure to check out our photo gallery to see all the fun that is going on here. Next Friday night, August 28th, at Paducah International Raceway is the World 50 paying $5000 to the winner of the late model feature race. It outta be exciting, so come on out and stay with us, and we'll shuttle you over to the track. On August 29th and 30th the"We Live Outdoors Duck Calling Contest will be held at Gander Mountain. Victory RV Park is a sponsor of this event. I think that it sounds like a lot of fun! We'll give you 10% off a two night camping site if you mention you saw our ad in the program or on our website.
Labor Day Celebrations will begin with a parade in historic downtown Paducah and proceed to Carson with barbeque, music and political speakers.
We have enjoyed the cooler weather lately and have hosted an ice-cream social and cook out at the campground pavilion. Friends like to gather and get to know each other. Some even played volleyball on the newly built court. September is coming and there are lots of events coming to our area.
Hunting season begins soon and we have the perfect spot for you and your group to camp and walk across the road to the Clarks River Wildlife Refuge. Let us provide you with a place to stay while you wait for that big BUCK!!
We continue to get comments about how quiet and pretty our park is. We work hard to keep our park clean, and provide a pleasant camping experience to those that stay with us. Come see us soon.

We had super fireworks this past weekend to celebrate the 4th of July and our American independence. Thanks to Paducah Internstional Raceway for providing the fireworks show. The races have been exciting as well. There were many out of town traveling racers that arrived for the "09 Summernationals-Hell Tour." The racing was great and congratulations to Billy Moyer, from Batesville Arkansas, for the win.
We are almost finished with the construction of our new laundry and bathhouse. This will allow us to accept tent camping to compliment the existing RV sites. I will let you know when the construction is finished. (Hopefully, late July)
We are looking forward to the annual Elks Convention that will be in our area soon. We are hoping that some of them will stay with us.
The folks at PIR are planning for a great NASCAR Night II on July 30. I have heard that Tony Stewart and Kenny Shrader will be there to race as well as sign autographs. Remember, Victory RV Park is next to the racetrack and we shuttle you over to the track for the races.
The Paducah Chamber of Commerce committee is making plans for the upcoming "Barbeque on the River." This is a super time to get food that is barbequed and help out area groups in need. Proceeds from the sale of food goes to different philathropic organizations. The smell of all that barbeque, ribs, burgers, etc. is heavenly!! We hope you can attend. I'll tell you the date as soon as it is finalized.
Even though we have a country atmsophere at Victory RV Park, we are located just minutes from downtown Paducah where the "Barbeque on the River" will occur.
That is all for now. Hope you will come by and check us out or give us a call.

This is my first time to blog! I am learning. However, I wanted campers and readers of this blog to be informed of the things that are happening at Victory RV Park. We have been blessed with all the campers that have come our way since February. Paducah was hit by a devastating ice storm on January 25th and brought many workers into our park. We have met people from all over the United States. Now that most of the clean-up is complete, many of the disaster crews have moved on. Good luck to them all. We hope they will come back our way, but not for another disaster!!
Then the quilters came to Paducah in April. These folks were very nice and we enjoyed getting to know them and hope to see them next year.
We are looking forward to the summer months and meeting all kinds of interesting people. We are currently building our laundry and bathhouse facilities. This should be complete by the end of June. Our "Sand Volleyball Court" should also be available by then.
The Kentucky State Hog (Harley Davidson) Rally was in town last week. We enjoyed getting to know some of the folks from the "Ride Like a Pro" group that worked their skills at the rally. Boy, were those some sharp bikes!!
We are awaiting the roaring thunder of the Late Model Dirt Stock Car Summernationals to arrive next door at the Paducah International Raceway. PIR will host the $10,000 to win Summernationals on Friday, June 26, 2009. Come join as we shuttle our guests over to the track for the race and back to the park. Everyone has really enjoyed this service.
On July 3, 2009, there will be fireworks over Victory RV Park. This is awsome site as the colorful fireworks explode over the lake. BEAUTIFUL!!
That's all for now. I'll be reporting some new and exciting news as we work through our first year as a new campgound.
